Gradual return to normal service within the next 48 hours
The aircraft 3B-NCL, which had been grounded in Mumbai due to technical problems, arrived in Mauritius at 10h45 this morning with 230 passengers on board, including two young children.
Two parts were sent to Mumbai yesterday morning on an Air India flight and were received for customs clearance around 17h35 (local time in Mumbai). The parts arrived at the aircraft at 20h30 and work commenced immediately as the defective part had already been removed.
The aircraft was declared serviceable around 11h00 pm, which is within the timeframe allotted for these repairs. Passengers were notified via SMS and WhatsApp of a departure for 06h00 this morning, and the rescheduled flight MK5749 was in "push back" (out of blocks) at 06h10.
With the return to service of this wide-bodied aircraft, and the 3B-NBU which was grounded in La Réunion, Air Mauritius will make adjustments over the next 48 hours so as to achieve a gradual return to operations with the usual schedules.
In this context, the flight to Cape Town is expected to depart at 20h00 today instead of 17h45 as initially planned. The plane is scheduled to arrive at its destination at 00h05 (local CPT time) in view of a new departure at 01h35 to arrive in Mauritius at 08:40 (local time).
The flight to Johannesburg, initially scheduled for 12h30 tomorrow, Monday, August 4, will depart at 07h50 Tuesday to arrive in Johannesburg at 10h25 (local destination time). The plane is expected to take off at 12h10 to arrive in Mauritius at 18h10.
The increased rotations with the two ATR72 will soon be no longer sustainable, as both the aircraft and the crews have been called upon almost 24/7 during the past few days. Given that the runway in Rodrigues is limited to ATR72, Air Mauritius is considering focusing the activity of its ATR72 on Rodrigues only and use the larger aircraft to manage the flow of passengers to La Réunion. Thus, three rotations to La Réunion are planned with the Airbus A330-200s and the flight to Antananarivo will be operated with an A350. The new schedules will be communicated to passengers later via SMS and WhatsApp.
Air Mauritius apologises for the inconveniences caused by these rescheduling and reminds passengers of the importance of providing their phone numbers on their PNR as recommended by IATA, so they can be informed of any changes to their flight schedule.
