Lovers of sun, sea, surf from around the world all eventually flock to Mauritius for its stunning beaches and the myriad of water activities that’ll appeal to our inner beach bum.

Here are some of the best beaches on the island and what you can do in them: 

 

Tamarin beach

Famous for: Surfing

Said to be the best beach on the island for its popularity with locals and tourists, it is also known as the surfers’ beach. Tamarin offers the perfect waves for surfing and swimming, with its black sand and powerful current making it a fun beach for sea lovers. Surfers should head out to Dal and Black Stone, the best surfing spots. Bonus: This beach is also known as a dolphin watching spot, so do keep an eye out while you are there.

Famous for: Snorkelling and coral reefs

This beach has a beautiful lagoon, coral reefs and offers breath-taking sunset views. One of the longest beaches in Mauritius, this is the perfect place to just laze around if you’re done with snorkelling. There are lots of luxury resorts in this area too, so you might want to book your hotel near this beach.

 

Mont Choisy beach

Famous for: Watersports like windsurfing, waterskiing, diving, fishing, speed boating, etc.

You can also join in on the many pick-up games of volleyball or football along the beach.

This beach also boasts attractive corals and lots of sea life so it’s a popular spot for nature lovers and photographers.

 

 

Poste Lafayette beach

Famous for: Its little covers and lush greenery that contrast with the sparkling waters of this beach.

Those who love kayaking can head to this beach as the long and calm lagoon is perfect for this sport. Aside from kayaking, people come here to surf, dive, snorkel and swim.

 

Grand Bay beach

Famous for: Yachting, sailing and fishing and other water sports

While it is also beautiful like all the beaches in Mauritius, this beach has catamaran and yacht docking facilities, which make it attractive for people who own these crafts.

 

Blue bay beach

Famous for: Water sports — specifically yachting and windsurfing

With its deep blue waters and vibrant beach, Blue Bay Beach attracts swimmers and sunbathers. It’s also famous for many water activities, including rowing and fishing. Blue Bay Marine Park is also here, which is great for those who love to see more marine life.

 

 

Le Morne

Famous for: Windsurfing, kitesurfing, surfing

Backdropped by the stunning Le Morne Brabant which gives it a dramatic view, this beach has a lot of water activities going on. Swimmers should watch out for all the sporting activity in the area.
